I have my gift code already, how can I access my free credit report?
  1. Go to TransUnion's website
  2. Enter your gift code and select the "REDEEM NOW" button
  3. Enter and submit the required information on the next screens to create an account with TransUnion
  4. That's it! You'll then be able to view your credit report and credit score.
Will my credit report be updated during the 30 days I have access to it?

No. The gift code will provide you with a one-time "snapshot" of your credit report and credit score. You'll be able to access your credit report and credit score for 30 days, but they won't be updated during that time.

What is TransUnion?

TransUnion is a credit-reporting agency that uses information to determine a person's credit score. This credit score then helps lenders (like banks) decide how well you've managed your credit obligations, whether to grant you credit, and how much credit to give you. TransUnion also provides data, analytics and smart solutions to businesses and customers around the world.

What's a credit report?

A credit report is a "snapshot" of your credit history. It's updated every 30 days and is divided into six main sections:

  • Accounts summary
  • Personal information like your name, address, birthdate and SIN number
  • Inquiries (a list of organizations or individuals who have requested information on your creditworthiness)
  • Banking information
  • Accounts
  • Public records
What's a credit score?

A credit score is a three-digit number, based on an analysis of your credit information. It's primarily based on credit report information sourced from credit bureaus like TransUnion, and is made up of information like:

  • Payment history
  • Credit behaviour
  • Types of credit
  • Current outstanding debt
When should I request a gift code?

If you have not used a credit product before (not including student loans) then you should wait at least 6 months after you've purchased items using your credit and made a payment towards the balance before requesting a gift code. This will improve your chances of having a credit file and a score when you redeem your gift code at TransUnion.
